Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation : Review

My skin and I have a tricky relationship. The first foundation I ever used was Taylor Swift’s Covergirl Natureluxe in the shade “sandstone” (which is now discontinued- very sad). I picked it up at my local drugstore one May right after my seventh-grade dance recital. I used this foundation for years for the sole reason that I was obsessed with Taylor and surprisingly, it was able to cover up some of my acne. Still- my hormonal acne prone skin wasn’t getting any better and anything I used looked extra cakey. Sure, the bumps on my forehead were no longer red but they were still there, just less noticeable. I guess you can’t win all your battles. Seven years later, my skin has changed with my acne mostly gone with special appearances once a month but the scarring is still there. My skin has gotten less oily and I’ve learned a lot more about makeup than middle school me.

Over the years, I experimented with MANY foundations from Revlon, Maybelline and Loreal to Laura Mercier, Mac and Urban Decay. This list is really just the tip of the iceberg but I think it’s safe to say I’ve tried my fair share of foundations. While some of them worked for me, none of them performed as well as the Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation

With 14 shades and a retail price of $69 CAD, this foundation is so incredibly lightweight but also buildable. It has a very light scent similar to a lot of Guerlain’s signature skincare products and comes in a glass bottle with an easy to use pump. I find that this product quite literally sinks into the skin and is able

to maneuver itself into every crevasse of the face- including the tricky areas around the nose that always seems to escape. This product feels like my skin but better. Because of its ability to be absorbed into the skin, it doesn’t look cakey at all. The SPF 20 is perfect especially for the summer when the sun’s out and you don’t feel like wearing sunscreen underneath your foundation.  If you’re someone like me, the added SPF is perfect because you won’t have to put on sunscreen- which I never do anyways even though I know I should because…nobody got time for that.

The Lingerie de Peau is also a moisturizing foundation and gives a certain glow to the skin when applied. I have combination oily skin and haven’t had any problems with it. I used to run away from anything that promised a glow but I’ve learned to love how healthy my skin looks with some added glow. This foundation is especially great during the winter months when skin tends to dry up anyways. It’s able to provide coverage while replenishing the skin.

With all that said, this is not the product for anyone looking for high coverage. While it is buildable, it is still very lightweight and is only buildable to a certain extent. The range of colours for selection is not perfect and the line does not offer any darker shades. However, if your skin is lighter, this line has a rather wide range of shades to choose from.

The two shades in the pictures above are in 01N Very Light and 03N Natural. The natural shade is perfect for what I call my summer skin after the tan kicks in and I’m no longer ghostly. Meanwhile, 01N is my winter shade and it’s also the lightest shade they offer. I can’t even begin to express how well these colours match my skin and how it just melts into my skin and creates such a seamless finish.

So, what is the verdict? The foundation comes at a rather heavy price tag for pretty medium coverage but at the end of the day, it is so worth the splurge. I guess the important thing is to note what you’re looking for in a foundation and if yours match up with mine, then this is the one for you.

I have acne prone skin and for me, the most important thing is that my foundation does not break me out. I’m also looking for a natural looking finish that isn’t full coverage but is still able to cover most of my imperfections. I want a foundation with quality ingredients that I know is helping my skin and if I have to pay a little extra for it, so be it. I want SPF in my foundation mainly because I know I’ll never have time to add actual sunscreen to my daily routine and last but not least, I want a foundation that can moisturize my skin.

Lingerie de Peau checks all my criteria’s and more and that is why I haven’t stopped using this foundation for the past eight months!

Let me know if you’ve tried this or suggest your favourite foundation below!! I want to know!

Sindy Spencer
